Asset Quality of Domestic Banks

Total outstanding loans extended by the current 39 domestic banks decreased by NT$36.1 billion (US$1.18 billion) as compared to the number of previous month and amounted to NT$26,125.2 billion (US$852.37 billion) at the end of Feb. 2017.  Meanwhile, the NPLs of these banks totaled at NT$76.6 billion (US$2.50 billion) which increased by NT$6.0 billion (US$0.20 billion) from NT$70.6 billion (US$2.30billion) as of the end of the previous month.
The average NPL ratio of the 39 banks increased by 0.02 percentage points and therefore rose to a figure of 0.29% from 0.27% of the previous month.  The coverage ratios of allowances for NPLs decrease by 42.42 percentage points and therefore fell to a figure of 462.77% from 505.19% of the previous month.
The asset quality of domestic banks continuously remained manageable according to the above figures as of the end of Feb. 2017.  The Financial Supervisory Commission will request those banks with higher NPL ratios to undertake measures to improve asset quality and financial structure on an ongoing basis.
