Asset Quality of Domestic Banks

Total outstanding loans extended by the current 39 domestic banks decreased by NT$ 1.7 billion (US$0.05 billion) as compared to the number of previous month and amounted to NT$26,161.3 billion (US$834.23 billion) at the end of Jan. 2017.  Meanwhile, the NPLs of these banks totaled at NT$70.6 billion (US$2.251 billion) which decreased by NT$0.1 billion (US$0.003 billion) from NT$70.7 billion (US$2.254 billion) as of the end of the previous month.
The average NPL ratio of the 39 banks kept flat at 0.27%, compared to that at the end of previous month.  The coverage ratios of allowances for NPLs increase by 2.26 percentage points and therefore rose to a figure of 505.19% from 502.93% of the previous month.
The asset quality of domestic banks continuously remained manageable according to the above figures as of the end of Jan. 2017.  The Financial Supervisory Commission will request those banks with higher NPL ratios to undertake measures to improve asset quality and financial structure on an ongoing basis.
